The Philosophy
Difficulty isn't about Authority (DR). It's about Vulnerability. A page with DR 90 that ranks with a generic directory listing is far easier to beat than a DR 30 local business with optimized content, reviews, and local signals. The Striker Score measures what actually matters: how beatable are your competitors?
The Soft Target Bonus
We give bonus points for every Yelp, Reddit, Facebook, or LinkedIn page ranking on page 1. Why? Because Google prefers local businesses over generic directories - these sites rank by authority alone, not optimization. An EMD with proper SEO can easily displace them.
- Social Media Sites: Bonus points per site
- Directory Sites: Bonus points per site
- Parasite Sites (Reddit, Quora): Bonus points per site
The Content Weakness Detection
We analyze the actual content of ranking pages to find weaknesses. Thin content, missing H1 tags, no schema markup - these are all signals that a competitor can be beaten.
- Thin Content (<500 words): Bonus points per site
- Title Mismatch (keyword not in title): Bonus points per site
- No Schema Markup: Bonus points per site
- No Local Signals (phone/address): Bonus points per site
The Visual Check
If the SERP is 50% ads, the score adjusts. We calculate the 'Fold Height' and 'Pixel Depth' so you know if ranking #1 actually means being seen. An AI Overview taking the top spot? That's a significant penalty because it captures clicks before users scroll.
- AI Overview Present: Major penalty
- Local Pack Present: Moderate penalty
- Below Fold (>800px): Penalty applied
- Ads Above Fold: Penalty per ad
Score Legend
The final Striker Score tells you exactly what to do:
- 85-100 (Striker): Green light. Buy the EMD now. Exceptional opportunity with high likelihood of ranking.
- 70-84 (Excellent): Strong opportunity with manageable competition. Worth serious consideration.
- 50-69 (Good): Viable opportunity. Winnable with good content and basic SEO.
- 30-49 (Moderate): Challenging but possible with significant effort. Proceed with caution.
- 0-29 (Poor): Don't waste your money. Too many real competitors or low commercial value.
Pro Tip: Use KD to Pre-Screen
Save credits by filtering with Keyword Difficulty (KD) first. KD is a quick indicator based on traditional backlink metrics. But here's the insight: Low KD + High Striker Score = ideal opportunity (easy by all measures). High KD + High Striker Score = hidden gem (looks tough but soft targets are actually ranking). Low KD + Low Striker Score = trap (seems easy but real competitors are there). Use KD to filter, then validate with Striker Score.
